J Ashley Boutique celebrates 10th anniversary
MARCH 6, 2010 — ST. AUGUSTINE RECORD
Dianne Garcia and Ashley Holt, owners of J Ashley Boutique, have announced the tenth year anniversary of the upscale and exclusive clothing and accessories retail store at 3590 St. Johns Ave. in the historic Shoppes of Avondale in Jacksonville. According to Garcia, she and Ashley are a mother-and-daughter team who decided to go into business together and open a well-appointed store to provide hip, chic styles for casual, business and formal occasions.
“Jacksonville has no truly high-end department stores and discerning customers were in desperate need of a great place to shop,” said Garcia. “We decided to open a boutique with clothes that you couldn’t find anywhere else in the area,” she said.

Launch Party @ J Ashley and Vue
JULY 29, 2009 — JACKSONVILLE MAGAZINE
A few summer rain showers couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the approximately 100 guests who turned out Wednesday night (July 29) in Avondale for a party officially releasing the August edition of Jacksonville Magazine and the fall edition of Bride. The invitation-only soiree drew a standing-room-only crowd to neighboring shops J. Ashley and Vue. Guests noshed on fresh fruit arrangements and hummus dip, while partaking in wine and Jacksonville Magazine’s very own cocktail creation, a potent mix we dubbed the “JaxTini.” The tables adorned with fresh-made cupcakes were a hit, too.

Retail picture multi-layered: Boutiques face many challenges
DECEMBER 13, 2002 — JACKSONVILLE BUSINESS JOURNAL
This holiday season has been a tough sell for Northeast Florida upscale boutique owners, who face unique challenges.
Higher-than-average prices may keep customers — current and potential — away as the economy slows. Retail pundits nationwide predict discounters will score big as consumers tighten their purse strings this year. Northeast Florida’s recent flurry of layoffs and rumors of more coming may have locals spending less.

Avondale Area Gets Revival
MARCH 9, 2010 — NEWS 4 JAX
Would you believe that people have been shopping the Avondale area for some 85 years? Because of the area’s age, it’s eligible for a major makeover courtesy of the city of Jacksonville’s Vision Plan which began in 2004 as an effort to restore and improve a variety of neighborhood retail areas through a community-based initiative and with the help and resources of the City. The Avondale area was designated as a historic district in 1998. Construction is already under way. It started Monday, March 8.
Ali Bryant, who shops the area, said, “I think it’s a good thing, I’m only concerned about how long it’s going to take. Like a lot of the upgrades around town, they seem to take a long time.”

Jacksonville Town Center Program heads to Avondale
MARCH 2, 2010 — DOW JONES MARKETWATCH
Ever since the 1920s, The Shoppes of Avondale has always been a place built on the principles of a town center — the commercial hub of a neighborhood where people can walk easily to a variety of stores.
This month, Jacksonville’s Town Center Program will start construction in Avondale, adding the historic shopping district to the areas around Jacksonville where the city has spent money on sidewalks, lighting, landscaping and other face-lifting work. The program is based on the expectation that sprucing up older commercial areas will help the surrounding neighborhoods.
